A major component of “Cognitive Enhancement” techniques I use on my clients, is to connect them to the boundless healing powers of “Nature”. This will not only reduce the burden of “stress” modern life has imposed on us, it will make them feel connected and whole, to face life challenges with a renewed and replenished sense of resiliency.
We all have access to some greenery and a patch of nature within reach we can take advantage of. A short walk in a park, or a green pasture, on the beach or in a garden, quietly observing and taking in the vastness of natural beauty would calm the nerves and expand our perspective and insight.
I am lucky to have discovered a very special spot near my house which I frequent often, especially last year. I would try to go in the early morning hours when the air is fresh and dewy, the crowds are minimal, and the bird’s good-morning songs fill the air. I would walk around the lake a couple of times, breathing in the fresh air.
Depending on the season, I would indulge in the aroma and scenery of the seasonal plants and flowers, pick a few sour plums on my way, let Kylo off his leash, let him explore freely the various smells, chase a few squirrels and ducks and get his own dose of vitamin nature! I would return to my daily tasks with a renewed sense of vitality, motivation and creativity.
This magical spot is Stow lake in Golden Gate Park. If you haven’t been there, and live nearby or plan on visiting San Francisco area at some point, I highly recommend a stroll around the lake. It’s a bit hidden from the main road, so if you don’t know where to turn, you might miss it.
Here is a Map of it, so you can put it on the “Places to Visit” list:
The other day I was so moved by its beauty that I sat down on a bench by the lake and broke into Poetry! 🙂
prancing around the lake,
Stow Lake
The colorful goose
her red wrinkly beak
prancing around the lake
her neck high and proud
morning dew tickles my nose
as I look up at the white cloud
the center island packed
chirpy birds all ‘round
napping gloriously
in the morning peak
The scenery is lush, green
pristine, ..OH so sleek
as I step on the trail
start my morning walk
breathlessly I say to myself
is all this beauty allowed?
